casual dining

If there is one thing almost every tourist agrees on, it is that Smith Island food is second to none! With the availability of fresh crab meat, oysters, and authentically made Smith Island cakes, there is no need to ever leave hungry!

We highly encourage guests to eat at the local restaurants to get not just a taste of Island food, but also a full serving of Island hospitality. Catering is available at the Inn for guests who wish to dine at the Inn in a private setting, including the Inn's indoor dining area or outdoors at the picnic table, under the pergola or in our new screened gazebo. Food is prepared fresh and requires 48 hour notice so ingredients can be obtained from the mainland. We regret that some items may not be available at certain times of the year.

We are pleased to offer guests seasoned steam crabs by the dozen! The fresh catch of the day is a rare treat since steamed crabs are not served in local restaurants. Please let us know ahead of time so we can order your crabs for consumption at our picnic table area. Please note that fresh crab availability is based on weather and other factors impacting the local watermen.

Harborside is the local's hangout and features a small grocery store and restaurant. The exterior was redone in 2014 and now includes deck seating right on the water. Cheesesteaks, which are actually a favorite of Islanders, are served here along with selections of crab dishes, burgers, subs, fries, and more.

Bayside Inn is the "big restaurant" on the Island where most of the day-trip tourists dine. They have a nice indoor seating along with a covered porch area that has a view of the country dock and the goats on Goat Island.

The Bayside Inn has amazing homemade crab soup, our favorite is the Cream of Crab! They have a large menu: Michele recommends their homemade macaroni salad. For guests who want a sweet treat, the Bayside Inn carryout features hand dipped ice cream and homemade shakes.

smith island cake bakery

The Smith Island Cake Bakery prepares freshly made cakes in a variety of traditional and newly created flavors that are sold by the slice, half cake portions or whole cakes which are perfectly packaged for transport home. The Bakery also features other specialty items, including Darren’s homemade pasta salad and homemade cinnamon rolls that rivals our own Aunt Judy’s family recipe. Stop by and grab a cold drink and a slice of cake and check out the hand-made items for sale in the store.

drum point market

Drum Point Market is located on Tylerton and is a wonderful choice for kayakers and folks opting to tour the tiniest of the Island communities. They have more restrictive hours, so we are happy to call to ensure they are open. Selections in the "big city" (Ewell) include Harborside Grocery or the Bayside Inn. Both restaurants have a water view and outdoor seating.

We are also happy to order you a Smith Island cake! Our cakes are made fresh on the day of your requested delivery by a local older woman who loves down the lane and delivers them personally to our guests. Cakes are boxed so extras can be taken home, although for most guests, taking it home often does not occur. Cakes travel very well and make a great treat to take home.
